Leave the lights on for me. When I get the chance to work with people in making a painting for their life — I get photos, stories, insights and more into the persons life and what is treasured. Making pieces for folks makes me feel like their is a higher power at work, that is helping guide the work — like the persons spirit guide is looking over my shoulder to whisper things. I spent the last two years of the pandemic fleshing out how to step into supporting artists and what that means as a white woman. I built @theartistisrising. I believe that our creative spirit is a key to our liberation work and that is the core of @theartistisrising. With the help of @alisontedford to consider anti-oppression and land stuardship in the framework, and the women @mahoganystone and @kat_and_dogs who worked hard to make a strong supportive women in business biweekly check in program out the isolation of quarantined times, I got fuel to build something that feels more connected and continuous through artist mentorship. This helped me also build the @youandme_gallery. Founded in the principle that we can’t go through this journey alone — honestly a very hard lesson for me to understand! What we tend grows. I got hooked on “Alone” ( #alone )recently. Folks! Have you seen this show? 10 survivalists go into the deep wild with 10 items to survive as long as they can. I’m not going to give away the things. I want to hear all about your ideas on it. But the Main word that comes to mind that the really helps the most successful survivalists is GRATITUDE and a creative practice.
