Abyss Diving 36" x 60"
Composed in layers of pigment and resin, this figurative painting plays with the way light enters the surface of the painting. The abstracted figure dives into the depths of a deep cobalt-blue abyss of an underwater cave — the cenotes.
Hand-made pigments included in this work are red jasper, Egyptian blue, cobalt blue, and malachite green. These crushed crystals and pigments imbue metaphysical healing energy into the work.
Measures 36" x 60"
Ready to Hang
Resin layered painting on canvas
surface is sanded down to a smooth matte finish

Earlier this winter, a friend suggested I take a botanical drawing class held at the Smith College Green House. I had visited the greenhouse multiple times as a Smith undergrad (2002 - 2006), but somehow, over the decade, had forgotten this sanctuary existed.
The green house has become a space for me this winter -- a representation of the heart -- it's vitality dependent upon deliberate and consistent tending.
Winter’s dull palette is caught ablaze here: the color palette celebrating a bright and balmy reprieve. The paint strokes are immediate and bold, mirroring the passion and freedom experienced by the heart when it is tended to with tenderness and deliberation.
